Congressman Tim Murphy once loudly advocated the Pro-Life cause at the Right to Life Convention in Pittsburgh in 2010. Katie Blackley of WESA reported him proclaiming the following:
“Every kids deserves a chance to have a choice at life. Every child deserves a chance to have a choice at life. Every baby deserves a chance to have a choice at life. And every parent should be supported in their responsibility and commitment to raise that child.”
Now well into his eighth term in Congress representing the Republican 18th District of Pennsylvania, an affair it seems has derailed his prospects for re-election. The Post Gazette first leaked a series of messages between Mr. Murphy who was 64 at the time and Ms. Edwards who was 32 years old. The end result was the end of his marriage and intense growing public scrutiny. In a public statement, he even announced he would not be seeking re-election:
“After discussions with my family and staff, I have come to the decision that I will not seek reelection to Congress at the end of my current term,”
The hypocrisy was first exposed in a series of text messages. After posting various Pro-Life statements on Facebook, Ms. Edwards whom he had had the affair with texted him the following.
“And you have zero issue posting your pro-life stance all over the place when you had no issue asking me to abort our unborn child just last week when we thought that was one of the options,”
Congressman Murphy then allegedly gave this response.
“I get what you say about my March for life messages. I’ve never written them. Staff does them. I read them and winced. I told staff don’t write any more. I will.”
Many former supporters have now come out against him after the recent revelations. Such as the Family Research Council, who gave him a 100% Pro-Life voting record rating, issued the following statement on Mr. Murphy remarking that “Congressman Murphy’s behavior is disappointing and disturbing,”. They continued expressing bewilderment and condemnation in the following statement.
“His statements and actions are at odds with his own voting record. Inappropriate personal behavior has public ramifications — and in this case, clearly opens him up to charges of hypocrisy. For his own sake and those around him, our counsel would be for him to bring his behavior in line with his past voting record, not change his policy stance to reflect his wrong behavior.”
Lastly, it was eventually discovered that she was not pregnant.
